Masks and Poetry

By Sebastian Jorgi

On Wednesday the book on masks and poems by Rubén Vela and Marta Díez was presented at the Museo deArte Hispanoamericano Isaac Fernández Blanco, Buenos Aires. The luxurious volume, published by Alejandro E. Caride Publishers, depicts works made by Díez in which “ambivalence and uneasiness prevail, because we do not know whether it is life – insistent and luminous - that prompts us to dance at the edge of the abyss, or it is death peeping out from the merriest folds of our worldly existence”, as expressed by Jose Emilio Burucúa. The poems by Vela, an acknowledged essayist and art critic with a wide production, provide the elaborate basis conveying the anthropological meaning that reaffirms the beauty of the masks and sculptures which are part and parcel of this book.
