“…Are those empty eyes watchng God´s intangible face? Artist Marta Díez has presented her book Masks-Sculptures at the Museo de Arte Hispanoamericano Isaac Fernández Blanco (Isaac Fernández Blanco Museum for Spanish-American Art). Each work included in the volume is accompanied by a poem written by Rubén Vela, the acknowledged poet, essayist and art critic from Santa Fe. The poet found inspiration for his texts through conversations with Marta Díez and Alejandro Caride, which were saved by Christian Hirschfeld´s technical expertise. “The empty eyes of masks gazing at a void caused in me an obssession with seeing what was behind them”, explains Marta Díez in the preface to her book. Upon going through this beautiful publication, the reader will be watching the valuable collection of masks produced by this paintress and sculptress from Tucumán in the last few years as the outcome of her anthropological research. Masks hold a fascination for the artist in their being as old as is Man, their reproductions going together with Rubén Vela´s poems. This noteworthy essayist and academician from Santa Fe has been awarded the Great Prize of Honour by the Sociedad Argentina de Escritores (Argentina Writers´ Society). His texts bestow on each image a reflection stemming from the lyrical world and from his place as a poet.
