Last week Tucumán-born artist Marta Díez presented her book “Masks-Sculptures” at the Isaac Fernández Blanco Museum of Spanish-American Art. The event took place within the Week of Art in Buenos Aires, with some 320 visitors on the presentation day. There was originality in the sponsorhip provided by Finca Flichman, producers of “Misterio” wine, the labels for which carry pre-Hispanic masks. Another sponsor was “Café Cabrales”, and finally two jewels by “Jean Pierre” – a necklace and a pair of cuff links – were raffled in aid of the children in “Chasicó”, where the artist teaches during the summer. Blas Lahitte, a Konex Prize winner and a doctor, academician, biologist, social psychologist, anthropologist and head of the Ethnological Museum of La Plata, presented the book. Alejandro Caride, as publisher and husband ( leaving aside his titles as doctor, professor and head of the Neurology Department in H. A.), struck a light note by playing the part of the announcer, and especially so when he addressed his friends. Amalia Amuchástegui, a friend of Marta´s, assisted Georgie and Rocha, the artist´s children, as they gave out flowers. Journalists and personalities of high standing were present, the epilogue having been written by José Emilio Burucúa, an art academician acknowledged by the Argentine cultural world. It was a presentation with a great impact because of the work produced by the already famous Tucumán-born artist now living in Buenos Aires, and also because of the luxurious premises, plus Marta´s and Alejandro´s warmth as they shared her achievement with their friends.
