MASKS OF SILENCE

By Maria Blanca Nuri

... Masks refer us to a truth that cannot be expressed in words; a desire that cannot be thoroughly aprehended no matter how many different names it may be given, one insisting on being present, drawing us to it and making us fall headfirst into an infinite space... This text arises as the effect of enjoying Marta Díez Ojeda’s masks and going through them in a detailed way. The artist, through a movement that would be the reverse of a ballerina’s, succeeds in creating coatings of veiling that simply take her along the way back to her own truth, made of the same matter as her masks, and inviting the viewer to partake in the same dance.
