Marta Díez on ArteClásica

You are certainly not the kind of person who requires being introduced. Nor do you need reminding anyone of who you are after having once exchanged a few words with them. Just thinking about this as being possible shows an unusual modesty in surroundings as ego-tripping as ours. Nor is this the first time I have a look around a gallery where your work is being shown. At the beginning it may have been out of mere curiosity, but later on it was due to an inner connection between what we both feel when watching masks in respect of their meaningful symbology. My first book of poems was published under the title “Beyond masks” (1989). I had chosen it because from a connotative point of view it was as close as possible to the act of placing one´s soul before the eyes of the others without any kind of concealment or feigning – something like placing that thorough nudity of feeling before the eyes of the world. Something like disclosing each of the deep wounds which have fashioned our vulnerability forever. And what about those dark, empty eyes which may well be galleries opening onto the deepnesses of one´s own self, or else closed gates as a parable of euphemism, simulation, hypocrisy. Masks, dear friend, undoubtedly have about them a strange attraction. It is the mystery that charms us while making us uneasy. Human beings, that is. Please convey my respectful greetings to Ruben and Tina.
