An ageless art
By Alejandro Caride
Mask-making is practically an ageless art. Hence its magic, through veritable sculptures always radiating identity. Could they be supernatural in their representation? Marta Díez engages her entire cultural and above all affective background. In her synthesis she conveys her own view of the world, her sense of life aiming at that which is timeless, placeless, encompassing the various masked spaces of the world in a wish for peace, valuing all of them in the same way. As her work progresses, she discovers new places within the same subject, in which to express her love for our world, through the symbolic representation of God - a supreme value that each one of us owns and respects. In each of those cut-out mask eyes, Marta Díez tells us about the mystery and seriousness with which she delves into a subject that so fascinates her. She thus grasps the observer as well as any of those who feel involved in her noble, deep work. She does not underestimate the engagement this implies, nor the mystery underlying the synchretism in her works, where the values of one culture blend with another almost synchronously, as if they had always been their own. This is her magic. We owe it to this sculptress that in her work there is room for all of us, be it explicit or imaginary, but always shared. Thank you, Marta Díez. by Alejandro Caride.
