Building bridges
By Marcela Costa Peuser
When facing an abyss, a bridge becomes a certainty, and, no matter how deep the abyss, a human being must imagine and build that passage enabling him to reach the other side and so carry on towards his destination. A bridge will not appear by itself – it is a human construction, both cultural and collective. A visionary person imagined it and many hands built it. In art – the highest expression of the human spirit, the visionary person is the artist who is able to grasp the dreams, hopes and desires in his community. The artist is a sensitive, alert communicator succeeding through his talent in making us able to see what is further on beyond, while at the same time building bridges to enable us to cross over. When the talent of one or several artists runs along common lines, wonderful things happen and valuable opportunities are generated, opportunities or bridges helping us to go beyond that which is individual towards that which is collective.
