My eyes are full of mask
by Ruben Vela
My eyes are full of masks, colours, shapes surrounding me and getting hold of me with various voices, prompting me to write this.
Very seldom in my long career as an art critic have I seen such passion as I witnessed while I was in her unbelievable studio. Her masks – some of them – are true works of art. Others reach me through their decorative sense, but her entire work is that of an artist passionately and happily devoted to deciphering the names of creation.
I am surprised at her fine instinct of turning masks into a living memory of our Indian past. The masks recreating the long-forgotten language of Indian cultures of the Argentine North-Western region are truly impressive, as are those reminding us of the Venetian Carnival in their dangerous innocence.
Marta Díez has paved the way for deserved triumph and artistic acknowledgement. Now is the time for her work to spread by following along the path of creation and wonderment - creation that overwhelms us because of the endless horizons found through her talent for art, wonderment that arises from so much beauty as concentrates in her work.
